What makes Caminito del Rey special?

History meets modernity
Originally built in 1905 for hydroelectric plant maintenance workers, the path fell into disrepair over decades. After complete renovation in 2015, it’s now safe and comfortable – suitable even for beginners.
Who is Caminito del Rey suitable for?
Perfect for:
- Walkers with average fitness (no experience needed)

Not suitable for:
- Severe fear of heights (the walkways are suspended)
- Mobility limitations (not wheelchair accessible)
- Children under 8 years (age restriction)
Practical information
- Duration: The pure walking time is approximately 3-4 hours. However, allow at least half a day when you factor in travel time and photo stops.
- Difficulty level: Easy to moderate. The path is wide and secured, but requires sure-footedness and a head for heights.
- Opening times: Open year-round, except during extreme weather conditions (strong wind or rain). In summer closed between 1pm-4pm due to heat.
- Equipment: Sturdy footwear is mandatory (trainers are fine). In summer, bring sun protection and at least 1.5 litres of water per person.

- Helmet mandatory: On arrival you’ll receive a free safety helmet – wearing it is compulsory
- One-way system: The path can only be walked in one direction (north to south)
- Rucksacks: Maximum 40x30x20cm – larger bags are not permitted
- No same-day cancellation: Bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours beforehand
Getting to Caminito del Rey

- By car: Free car park at the north entrance (early arrival recommended)
- By train: Regional train from Málaga to “El Chorro” (50 mins), then 15-minute walk or shuttle bus
- Shuttle bus: Buses run between the end point (south) and starting point (north), approximately £2
